A Bar-B-Q Plaza experience.

Bar-B-Q Plaza. I've been walking past the place for months in Gurney Plaza. I was reluctant to step inside. (Don't know why) It looks kinda interesting from the outside, but its somehow not tempting enough to lure me inside...till 2 days before I left Penang for good.

I was like ... why not? It won't be that bad.

The place is very nice and clean. (That's the most important thing from me...I know it may sound a bit funny since I was born and bred in Penang, I should be able to tolerate the level of "cleanliness" in most Penang's restaurants)

They even have a step-by-step on how to cook using the hot pot.

There are 6 steps all together. So, let's see if I actually follow the steps.

Look at that golden hot pot. Doesn't it makes you feel like royalty already?  Hehehe

Then our food is served.

Raw meat and vegetables and udon served with 2 bowls of white rice. We changed two white rice to garlic rice. The garlic rice is not fantastic tho, definitely better than white rice eh.   :P

The meat that is served to us is frozen. So we have to wait a little while before we can start to cook.

Okay....now let's follow the steps.

Step 1 - Once the chicken stock soup has been poured and the lard has been greased on the hot plate, place the vegetables in the soup.

Look at the piece of LARD (which is FAT) that is given to us. Ugh.... We have to use that piece of fat to grease the pot.

Step 2 - Proceed to grill the morsels of meat and seafood on the hot plate.

Step 3 - Leave the beef to cook till it turns light brown, as over cooking it will affect its tenderness.

Look at the blood oozing out when we grilled the meat. A bit "geli" la for me.

Step 4 - For the other meats and seafood, it is cooked once it has turned golden brown.

Step 5 - For the soup to be sweet, continue to add more vegetables.

Step 6 - Lastly, you may place the udon noodles in the soup for it to be cooked for about 30 seconds.

We even ordered additional 2 side dishes.

Bacon Roll. OMG this is absolutely freaking delicious! I love it sooo much!!!! It comes with some cheezy sauce which is awesome. It's definitely a must-try dish if you're there!

This is potato prawn roll that we ordered. Nothing great. So you skip this dish (if you want to of course). It comes with the same cheezy sauce as well.

Well, overall the food was good. It was worth it. We had fun. Tho' I find it a weee bit troublesome when cooking vegetables and udon cause the space is limited, and there's not much soup to drink as well.

If you like the idea of spending some time chatting with family and friends while eating, then this would be a good place.

BaNaNa Leaf Rice

Nasi Kandar and banana leaf rice - favorites!! Definitely we would prefer banana leaf rice cause nasi kandar is known for its "cleanliness". There's only one place that we would go to for banana leaf rice.

PASSIONS of KERALA which is located in New World Park, Penang.

This is how the shop looks like...(just in case) you decided to go there after reading my blog.  :)

The rice set comes with banana leaf as the plate and 4 side dishes, which is usually vegetarian dishes, and it varies all the time.

But there's only a few dishes that we would always order.

The fried bitter gourd. Although we seldom eat bitter gourd, this happens to be our all time favorite. It's a must-have dish.

Fried chicken. This is also another must-have dish. Both Bella & Belle will never say no to this dish.
I also ordered fried fish. Which is just ok.

We didn't order a lot cause only me and Dallon were eating. Bella had her lunch in school because it was her last day in school that day. Usually I would order mutton curry and chicken curry and stuff myself crazy but then, we still have to save some space for our tummy cause there's still lots of food on out waiting list that we have to eat before we go over to Singapore.

This is how we enjoy our banana leaf rice. With our hands.  :)   Delicious isn't it?

This is how one should fold the banana leaf after the meal. (**I forgot which way - either fold upwards or downwards) This is to show that we enjoyed the meal.

**If I'm not mistaken, there's a meaning to the way we fold the leaf after our meal. One shows that we enjoyed the meal and another shows that we are not happy with it. So, if you're unsure, after your meal just tell them that the food was great. Simple and easy.   :D

All in all, this is definitely the best place if you want to eat banana leaf rice. The environment is great, parking is easy and the most important thing  ------>  the food is GOOD!

We will definitely be there again on our next trip back to Penang.

Moving...

We are now living in Singapore.

So for the past week we are all kinda busy with the packing and running errands and....(the list goes on and on).

That's also a reason why we didn't blog anything at all.

Beelean : We are settling down comfortably.  :)  Of course, I miss my family and friends over at Penang and also Penang food for sure!

Bella : I'm sooo happy to be in here!!! I have always wanted to live here. But just like mum I miss the Char Koay Teow!!!

Belle : I am super happy !!!!!!! All that I miss is my school mates. I am so comfortable in Singapore.

Well....we still have a few posts on Penang food. Which we will be thinking of....

Stay tuned.

Bella's Double Cheese Burger's indulgence!

This is the “Double CheeseBurger” from McDonalds, my favorite.

This time there is a coupon for “Double CheeseBurger”. It was really good I’m telling you. Its my all time favorite. I also like the “Chicken Burger” but the “Cheese Burger” will always be the first thing on my mind when I’m in McDonalds.

I ate 2 Double Cheese Burgers and Belle ate 2 Chicken Burgers. Mom and dad ate home cooked food.

This is the voucher for the  Double Cheese Burger Buy 1, Get 1 FREE.

I think maybe the next coupon would be fries or ice cream or Quarter Pounder?

Whatever it is I hope its something I eat (I’m a very picky eater ;) )

And the next day me and Belle ate the same thing. We went to eat buy the burgers at Gurney Plaza’s McDonalds and mom and dad ate at the food court there. At ten o’clock we went to watch Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 2.

It was very interesting. I liked the magic and the wands, the place it was taken, the characters and the battles. Also the last part where Harry Potter’s son,
Albus Severus Potter, was going to Hogwarts, I really wanted to see him doing the sane thing as Harry Potter. ;D

I will definitely write about the next coupon if there is one! :D

What can RM40 complimentary voucher can get us at Sakae Sushi

Well, we are sure that you guys have seen our previous post on Sakae Sushi Making Workshop.

From there, as you know we got RM40 complimentary voucher from both Bella & Belle. So, we decided to have our dinner at Sakae Sushi in Gurney Plaza. (and we were wondering how much can we actually eat with the RM40 voucher)

Well....we will see. We will reveal the bill at the end. Hehehe.

Don't know what's this called, but we like it. However, Belle would pick the cucumber out for me cause I am the only one that eats cucumber in the family. (I know....sigh)

This is the spicy salmon sushi that we goes.... eeekkkk. We don't quite like it. (I would say its an acquired taste.  :D  )

Fried wanton. Hehehe. It's actually very tasty. Different from the wanton that you get from the hawker.

Deep fried scallop!! My favourite!! I just love scallop.  Both Bella & Belle think its just another type of nuggets, so yeah...they like it too. (one of those "mommy tricks" that works)

Deep fried tempura. This is the dish for mommy and daddy only. Cause obviously, it is vege only.

Tamago. This is one of their favourite sushi. Just egg and rice. Another would be the egg mayo sushi.

See... Minimum of 4 plates for them each time they walk into any sushi outlet.

The sweet dessert. Forgot the name...again.  :)  We all don't like the red bean flavour tho.

Us in the Sakae Sushi outlet.  <3  We just love spending time together eating and shopping. That's what we usually do during the weekends.

The TOWER!  This is the amount of sushi plates that we ate. Definitely way pass the RM40 voucher.
Now its the time for the bill.....

Taaaadaaaaaaaa.........

P/S : **I forgot that I ordered the Gyu Kinoko Don (beef rice) and I finished it and realised that I forgot to take the picture. Hehehe.

DA BILL....way pass the RM 40 voucher limit that's for sure.

But then the most important thing is we enjoy ourselves (despite the slow service on that day).

Sakae Sushi Making Workshop.

Both Bella & Belle was very excited when I told them that I registered for them sushi making workshop. They are looking forward to it. It's RM35 for each participant.

Well, we were all getting ready. Both girls were looking for the appropriate outfit to wear. Wondering what they might have to do during the workshop, so I told them, jeans would be the best bet. They agreed.

They practically swallowed their lunch as they don't wanna be late for the workshop.  :)
 ~As long as they eat, I'm happy~

Then, when we were there, they were assigned to their seat.

Look at them. Smiling happily. They are always excited to try out new things.

Each participant were given a set of gloves and a box of ingredients to work with. Then they were asked to go upfront to listen to what the sushi chef have to say and also to brief them on what to do.

All the kids were listening carefully. Now I wonder if they are actually like that in school. I doubt that!

Look at how closely they pay attention to the chef when he is speaking.  :P

All of them ran back to their places and start making their own sushi. Let's see if they actually listen.

These are some of the ingredients that were given to them. Fish roe and egg. Only recently both my girls started eating fish roe.

Simply because, when they were younger I told them that they will have lots of baby fishes inside their tummy swimming around if they were to eat fish egg. Then, I actually had to laugh it off  and tell them its a joke, when they ask me, "Then what happen when I eat chicken eggs?"

Well, they finished the hand roll! That's impressive!! Let's see how well they do on the next sushi, the sleeping panda!

Not bad eh!  :D  At least now I can say my money is worth it. Hehe.

Bella & Belle's sushi! Not bad ya for a first timer.

The group of kids that joined the sushi making workshop by Sakae Sushi on that session. The girl standing beside the chef is the winner. They each got a gift pack, Sakae Sushi member card and a plush toy to take home.

Daddy with her girls. He's always proud of them.  <3

Bella & Belle with the Sakae Sushi mascot after they finished the workshop.

This is what's inside the the gift pack. 2 x RM10 gift voucher and 2 x RM10 complimentary voucher.

Well, that's about it for the sushi making workshop. Make sure you sign up for your kids for the next available workshop. I'm sure they will enjoy it too, just like 3B did.
